    New smoke effect after shot

Post by lockie on Fri Apr 13, 2018 10:38 pm

There are some works with a new smoke effects. Let's see some screenshots presented for the T-50 tank gunsight reticle.

As u know after a shot there is a big cloud of the dust created, which prevented gunner to see the target via gunsight during a while. In SF this effect is absent, coz the game is more arcadish and user may see the target right immediately after a shot. We'll try to add this effect as additional mod to make the game closer to reality. Though, it's not easy thing, coz a lot of work should be applied to the cloud' textures and some gunsight reticles subject to be re-adjusted. Anyway, it is announcement and I hope sooner or later it'll be implemented into STA mod  Cool

Always in favor of a little bit of reality. Will the ai be constrained in the same way though? Will the ai opponets' vision be blocked by the smoke and dust for a while also?

I don't know Smile Perhaps, it'll affect only user.

That's possible, it acts like smoke screen.

    Hi Lockie !

It is very interesting ! However it is important to take into account that the effect was much more noticeable in some tanks. For example, I remember that the Sherman Firefly suffered from that problem much more than other tanks. I have read several times (in different sources) that the cloud of smoke obscuring the gunsight view for a while, was an important problem of the Sherman Firefly when compared to other tanks...

Here we have a quotation about that problem:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Firefly

"Another problem was that the powerful blast from the 17-pounder gun kicked up large amounts of dirt as well as smoke, making it difficult for the gunner to observe the fall of shot and forcing him to rely on the commander to observe it and to order corrections."

It seems that the information is taken from the book:

Hart, Stephen (2007). Sherman Firefly vs Tiger. Osprey. ISBN 9781846031502
