    Screen resolution issues base game

Post by Ingsoc39 on Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:56 pm

Hello, just bought and downloaded the game, and want to mod it. HOwever before I do that and to implement it all correctly, I need to address the screen resolution issue:

PC is runnning windows 10 64 pro
Asus Rog 27 inch monitor with native resolution at 2560x1440

When I run the game, half the screen is cut off, I have gone into settings to turn turn screen resolution down to 1080p but same issue, any thoughts? I obviously want to be able to see the screen
correctly for game play and when installing and running mods, many thanks and happy hunting!

Follow up, I was able to cycle through all the keys and adjust some things, then upon exiting the game Win10 had a pop up that said there were compatiablity issues with the game, and fixed it! So, looks like Im up and running, dont know what it did, maybe it ran as winvista..?

The game runs fine on any OS.I have played it on Vista, Windows 7 , 8, 8.1 and now 10 without any issue. However the game was made in 2007 when the average pc screen resolution was 1280 X 764.

There 's a fix for those who play using your resolution .Here's the thread: stasf2008.forumotion.com/t712-fix-for-219-monitors

    Hi Ingsoc39,

If your monitor has a native resolution of 2560x1440, then its aspect ratio is 16:9 (not 21:9).

There is a fix developed for STA 3.3 for 16:9 monitors: "aspect_16-9_STA3.3_v.8.90"

    You can see it here

You can also check at the FAQ:

Thanks Txema, yes my mistake Im running 16x9 and do have that mod installed, I have a few more video questions, and will check the link you provided, here are my issues/concerns:

I still have a few more questions, but they are in the settings area, regarding video. So let me first ask, if I dont install the Grass tweak, how should I should I configure the in game video and graphic settings? I see that I can set the graphers to user defined and VERY high quality, also, in another page, there are tabs for "compressed" graphics etc. Im just not sure given the age of the game, 10 years, and my current card, if Im getting the best look to the game, here is what I am using

    1. 16x9 monitor that runs on native resolution at 2560x1440...AND the aspect mod runs at 2560x1080, does this cause any problem? I am using the 2560x1080 MOD with the 4gb patch..when I UNINSTALL all mods do I always need to reaply the 4gb patch as I enable each mod, or is doing it once all I need to do?

    2. On the other side, I have had crash to desktop and a notepad opening using the Grass tweek, again, Im not sure what screen resolution I should run and how to configure the in game video setting...any help appreciated, other than that, the game is up and running fine!

Ohh one final thought, went twice to download the All missions open cheat, and I think there is a virus attached to it, twice it gave me big problems...dont know if there is somethng wrong there.

I Also saw that it is better to install the game in another harddrive and NOT in the c:programs x86 folder? that is where I have installed it...here is the infor from the help area:

    1. If you use Win 7 or Vista, then be sure you have NOT installed the game in the directory "Program Files". Install the game in other folders, i.e.:
    - C:\My games\Steel Fury
It is better to install the game on another partition or harddrive:
    - D:\My tank games\Steel Fury

    Install only recommended mods.

    It's false positive, nevermind.

Yes, follow to the recommended advice http://stasf2008.forumotion.com/t20-how-to-install-sta-mod
Never install SF in C:\Program files\
    Install somewhere else, i.e:
    D:\My Games\Steel Fury\
