The destroyed German Tank at the Cologne, Cathedral. It lost a sudden violent duel with new 3AD(Third Armored Division) Pershing M-26.
Unidentified 3AD soldiers inspect a German Mark V Panther tank several days after it had been knocked out on March 6, 1945, by an M-26 commanded by Sgt. Robert Early, E Co, 32nd Armored Regiment. The Panther took three hits from the M-26's 90mm gun. At least three of the five-man German crew were confirmed killed. The M-26 was not hit.

This is a good idea for the mission, but there are too many buildings should be made (especially Cathedral) and there is a problem to implement cobblestone. Though, it's possible.

As I've understood, Commander of the Panther hit two Shermans from tunnel, then came to the corner waiting for the next attack. At this time Pershing rolled out from Dominikanem street. Panther managed to rotate the turret into Pershing's direction to meet him, but Commander waited, coz he wasn't sure it was American tank (there were three tanks left to cover German retreat:2xPz.V and 1xPz.IV) and it was a fatal mistake. Pershing shoot in the moving and damaged Panther through the gunmask. Then M-26 stopped and shoot second time. The video started exactly from the second shot. Four members of crew managed to bail out. Possibly, loader was killed and burnt inside the hull. Later, three members of crew captured by American troops. Two of them were heavily wounded and died. Commander Bartelborth and fourth member(his fate unknown) survived.

On the next day American tankmen decided to make a test the Panther's frontal armor. They moved tank at ~300m and shoot 13 times. No any shells penetrated, there was only driver hatch damaged (fall off).

    PS
I've moved messages with "hit effect" to the new topic:

I've found a model of destroyed town. So, theoretically it's possible to re-create such mission, but there is the hell a lot of work with models.

I think it's time to reborn this story and make the mission!

Well, this mission request a very picky map with many destroyed buildings and bridge over the river. The task is a very complicate, but I'll try to get it over Smile
Anyway, it is just a game.

I'm thinking to take as a base - polygon from "Fury" campaign and add:
    - river
    - bridge
    - a couple destroyed buildings

    So far, what I've compiled.
    Hope that help Smile
It was a 106 panzerbrigade of The Panzer Division "Feldherrnhalle", which was formed in March 1945 from the Replacement and Training parts of  "Feldherrnhalle" Corps and remnants of the 13th Panzer Division. Commander Generalmajor Franz Bake.
    Insignia

    There were three tanks left:
    2x Panther
    1x Pz.IV
    1x infantry platoon

The task was: provide a cover to German withdraw and bridge destroying.

    Panther' commander: Leutnant Wilhelm Bartelborth
    Panther' gunner: Obergefreiter Otto Konig

First damaged building is on the way! applause

There will be perhaps another one or two and it's enough. The base polygon will be from "Fury" campaign. I'll add a river with a bridge and expand the town.

I think staying on the same place and shoot at stupid AI - it's boring. In this way the mission will be finished in a couple minutes - no fun anymore. So, let's first move and help Pz.IV, then another panther and after that engage the position near church to meet M-26 "Pershing"  viking

Second damaged building is on the way!

I think it is enough. The next stage is a polygon creating.

After a long pause let's continue on! At this moment we've a bridge and over this bridge a German remnants will retreat. I've to note that "bridge" is the most complicated object on the polygon! If it would be made in incorrect way, then AI would not go over it or stuck or go somewhere else or whatever. Finally, I've managed to prepare it in the right manner and now it works near at perfectness! We need this bridge only for the first five minutes to show the user a retreatin' of the German units, which moves over the bridge to the other side. In fact, it is a pure "candy". Of course, I may place user's tank immediately in the town and start the action, but we'll lost the mission' atmosphere and nobody believe - it is so important to stay in the town with a purpose to provide a cover. Let's see some screens.

Also I've prepared a log-path as an alternative "bridge", just for any case.

Here we're with a new screenies of the polygon, where the battle will take a place. I've to say that working is a very hard. I try to keep the real activity of the battle, but it's almost impossible. The first reason i can't create the real district of the town. it'll smth. similar. The reason two is obvious - fight took let's say no more than 5 minutes. Then who cares to play the mission during 5 minutes? it should be at least 15-20 or even more to get adrenaline and fun! viking
That's why I'm still thinking how to organize the mission in a more suitable manner.
Let's say there will be attack of the US tanks, then user should retreat and protect the bridge. To be continued Smile

That's the main idea of the first task - meet the US tank force and try to repel it.

Second task is providing the cover to the German retreating forces.

And here's a new idea for the next mission - stop the US tank attack and provide the retreating of the main forces.

And finally there are a couple screenies abt. APC "Puma". Now we've a two "candies":
    - damaged "Puma"
    - burnt "Puma"
These models doesn't effect the gameplay at all, BUT it'll force the player to believe - he is on the battlefield! Cool
Look, all these units were blotted out from the sky or what? Do u believe? Wink Theese models will be added to the training mission - Place a "smoke cover".

We've a new picture of the town Cologne! Of course, it's a very draft material, but at least we may see the common plan of the town.

Now the main idea is - to implement two streets which leads to the center where the Church is located. The mission itself will be separated on the two tasks:
    1. Help to German rear-guard to slow down the Allies movement
    2. Protect the square and provide the retreating of the German troops
According to the real history the Panther ausf.A was destroyed. So, we need the conditions how to finish the mission successfully. I think it's possible, if user will stay alive during the defined time period. What do u think, Gentlemen?

I personally think we should avoid urban settings for SF. The buildings don't look natural and kind of spoil the mood and realism for me. It's just that SF 's game engine is really dated and cannot allow realistic buildings and urban settings. It's better to stick to simple Russian Ukrainian villages or small French villages like the one for Wittmann's missions. Large cities on the other hand just don't cut it.My 5 cents....

I wish I could, but for this mission we need a part of the town. It's more as a "candy" than a real mission. Anyway, I hope it'll be playable Smile
Meanwhile, we've two new objects "heap brick n1" and "heap brick n2". This object should force the player to believe he is inside the half-destroyed town Rolling Eyes

I need another object "vehicle frame" to bring more atmosphere and emotions Wink
