    It is the most interesting question in the game bom

    According to the Soviet data the shell is penetrated through the armor, if 75% of his mass found after the armor (inside the tank).

    Calculation of the armor penetration

    It is illustration how the shell strike the armor plate.


    This formula was used by devs in SF. It is a semi-empirical correlation, which is used for the estimation of the armor plate penetration. Usually it is used in calculating the armor penetration of the tank protection.


    where
    d - caliber of the shell (decimeter)
    k - coefficient of the armor hardness, it is determined empirically, as in the Jacob de Marr' formula. It is assumed to be larger in case of a perfect shell shape, its strength and the smaller angle of the encounter and on the contrary. This "K" is often different even for the same tank. For example, we have thick-headed shell, then it is assumed to be 2300 against the frontal "Panther" armor and for the board - it is 2200 etc. The "Panther" upper glacis of the frontal armor was hardened. It is in the game K=2050 for the Panther to provide a balance. If coefficient will be 2300 then it wont be interesting to play anymore Smile Anyone may check this sentence out to be sure Wink
    Vc - shell velocity at the moment of impact (m/s)
    a- angle to the normal of the surface
    c - relative mass of the shell/warhead (I’ve no idea what it does)
    m - mass of the shell/warhead (kg)
